The NETCHER project will officially start on 1 January 2019.
The NETCHER project, funded by the 8th Framework Programme of the European Union for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020), will officially start on 1 January 2019.
NETCHER – NETwork and Social Platform for Cultural Heritage Enhancing and Rebuilding is coordinated by the HiSoMA-CNRS laboratory, Lyon and brings together, over a period of 2 years, a consortium of European entities (CNRS and Université Lyon 2, Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia and Fondazione Ca’ Foscari, Deutsches Archäologisches Institut, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Police et Université de Technologie de Troyes, Capital High Tech SARL, Interarts, Michael Culture). It will focus on the issues relating to the preservation of cultural heritage and the fight against illicit trafficking of cultural goods.
The last decades have witnessed a variety of initiatives, promoted by a diverse set of actors engaged in the protection of endangered cultural heritage and in countering illicit trade, aimed at providing methods and approaches to address looting and trafficking. NETCHER seeks to address the complex challenge of harmonising and bringing together these worthy, but often disconnected initiatives through a participative approach that will result in the setting-up of a structured network (Social Platform) drawing together a broad range of players such as international and umbrella organizations, national authorities and public policy makers, researchers, NGOs as well as public and private organizations.
The Social Platform will take charge of systematizing all the emerging best practices in order to enhance and capitalize on the experiences to establish a joint action plan with shared toolkits and a research and innovation roadmap.
